Personal History:

Beaten and broken, his hammer stolen, Thor is the last survivor of Ragnarok. He is disillusioned and bitter. Cut off from the land of his birth, his fabled strength has begun to wane, bereft of Idun's apples he has begun to age -- drastically. Can a weakened, aging, hammerless and distraught Thor be an asset to the Avengers?

Ragnarok occurred in 1945 at the same time the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Loki had become the god of atomic/nuclear energy and used the power of that destruction to change the events of Ragnarok. He was able to survive, kill his nemesis Heimdall and escape Asgard, taking with him Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, Odin's spear, Gungnir, and Odin's well, Mimir, that sees all and knows all. Loki has become quite powerful, and survives as a powerful new god unbeknownst to Thor, the other survivor of Ragnarok.

Thor's destiny was taken from him, when his two young sons, Magni and Modi, sacrificed themselves and were slain by (and in turn slew) the Midgard serpent. Thus, Thor survived Ragnarok, which was never his destiny and never his plan, especially meaning the loss of his beloved sons. Without Asgard, his wife, his father, his family; without Mjolnir; without Idun's apples that give Asgardians their eternal youth Thor has aged, becoming an old man, weak and bitter and lonely.

Thor is currently employed as a Professor of Nordic Literature and Anthropology at Columbia University. There he is known as Dr. Donner Woodson. He has published one semi-successful fictional book, "Ragnarok Lost."

Thor has recently become involved with a team of heroes-- The Avengers. His adventures with them have renewed his lease on life.

Appearance

Thor appears as a wizened old man, that was once a powerful warrior. When not stooped, he stands at 7'. He has a bushy braided red beard, is balding with wild red hair. His ornate chainmail armor slumps heavily on his depleted frame. He has a persistent cough and a lost look in his eyes.
