Personal History:

Matthew Hawk always wanted to be a cowboy when he was growing up. Unfortunately being the son of a plumber from Bayonne, NJ isn't real condusive to that career choice. So his family persuaded him to become a lawyer. A corporate lawyer... That wasn't enough for Matt so he snuck in criminal law course whenever he could. After he graduated and took the BAR, he applied to the US Marshall service on a lark and was accepted. Here he could be a cowboy. He perfected his "quick-draw" he'd practiced as a kid. He was ridiculed to a small extent but no one could argue with his performance record, particularly on "special" cases. He rapidly moved up and was eventually assigned to the "special assignments" division, where he proved himself adept at pulling off assignments requiring a cool head under fire, and the ability to rapidly assess and react to strange circumstance.

Matt was part of a Federal task force which responded to reports of horrendous explosions in Nueva Mesa, New Mexico, where they discovered the remains of an alien infestation. According to a report on the incident filed by the New York-based group of heroes known as the Fantastiks, it had been an advanced base of an alien race known only as the Kree, who had been defeated by group referred to by the Fantastiks as the Avengers.

The National Security Agency formed a small sub-unit of the U.S. Marshals to deal with the growing problem of "supranormal" threats to the government and people of the United States of America. This unit was to develop a small group of personnel armed with advanced weaponry, and charged with protecting the people of the United States from extraterrestrial and supranormal threats. This special unit was headed up by Special Director Wyatt Wingfoot, son of the WWII hero Thunderbird, and began to recruit scientific and field operatives. Director Wingfoot himself requested that Matt volunteer to join his team.

Matt was given special prototype weapons, developed using technology partially recovered from other alien incursions and by their scientists. After developing a special uniform and using the code name "Two Gun Kid", Matt was released to service in the field as The Two-Gun Kid.
