Mar-Vell of the Kree. Who was Mar-Vell?
He was the child abandoned by his parents to a heartless Kree military acadamy when he was nine. His father designed military starships, and young Mar-Vell devoured ship schematics like Terran children colleced sports cards and memorized statistics.
We was to become one of the Kree Empire's most impressive warriors, admired by all - except the bigoted blue Kree, who hated him for having attained a degree of skill, of honor, and of courage that they couldn't match.
We was to become one of the most notorious traitors to the Kree Empire, standing against his own people in favor of the people of Earth. Later, as the Protector of the Universe, he would stand against his own people in their relentless drive for galactic domination.
He would become the only Kree warrior to ever be decorated by the Skrullian Empire.
When Ego imbued him with cosmic awareness, he saw how hollow his life as the penultimate Kree soldier had been - how fleeting and pointless the ostensible glory of war, and how the weak needed a protector, one who would use just enough force to protect them. A consummate warrior, strategist, and tactician, firmly dedicated to protecting. Protecting everything. Protecting the Universe.
Mar-Vell didn't flinch before the unspeakable evil of Thanos. He didn't flinch against the slow, creeping death which would take him from us.
