The Invaders were formed when Captain America, Namor, and the Original Human Torch banded together to prevent Master Man from assassinating Winston Churchill. Accompanied by their sidekicks Bucky and Toro, they formed the core of the Invaders, based in England. Their next mission was confronting Brain Drain (the Nazi mastermind behind the creation of Master Man), and found that he had enslaved four members of an alien race, taking their technology to serve the Reich. The Invaders free the aliens from Brain Drain's mental dominion, and they cause a critical-mass explosion, destroying Brain Drain's fortress. Unfortunately, Brain Drain would himself return to plague them. During the course of their battles, they would base themselves at the estate of Lord Falsworth, who had been the British patriotic costumed commando Union Jack in World War I, and whose brother was the Nazi vampire, Baron Blood. Later, Lord falsworth's daughter would recieve an emergency transfusion from the Human Torch, and the combination of vampiric virus and synthetic android blood would give her fiery super-speed powers. She would join the Invaders as Spitfire, and her brother would take up their father's mantle as Union Jack. Invaders Roster!

The Liberty Legion were assembled by Bucky when the Invaders were captured and brainwashed by the Red Skull. Sending out an appeal via radio to the other American-based costumed heroes, he assembled the American-based couterpart to the Invaders, which included the Whizzer (who would later become an Invader), Miss America (who would also become an Invader), the Patriot (who would become Captain America III), the Blue Diamond, the Thin Man, the Red Raven, and Jack Frost. |

When Dr. Sabuki was forced by Agent Axis to attempt to separate his three personalities, the operation was interrupted by one of Toro's fireballs. The resulting explosion sent electrical energy from the experimental equipment into Davy Mitchell and Dr. Sabuki's daughter, Gweeny Lou. Davy Mitchell was granted the ability to spin at super-speed, and Gweeny Lou the power to cast golden power bolts from her hands. The four of them would become the Kid Commandos, fighting fifth columnists while participating in War Bond rallies. After the war, both Gweeny Lou and Davy Mitchell would join the Penance Council, and their descendants would continue the family tradition. |

The Crusaders were a team of operatives created by the Englishman known as "Alfie", purportedly to be an English super team; however, Alfie was in the pay of the Third Reich, and duped them into fighting the Invaders. When the truth became known, most of the Crusaders (The Spirit of 1776, Dynamite, Ghost Girl, Tommy Lightning, Captain Wings, and Thunderfist) discarded their powers - however, the Spirit of 1776 would go on to become the first replacement Captain America, and Dynamite was in reality Roger Aubrey, who became the behind-the-lines Nazi-fighter called the Mighty Destroyer. |
