Captain America Movies

There are always ongoing rumors about Captain America movies, series, or suchlike which are in development; currently Captain America was included in a package deal with Artisan Entertainment, but not actively being developed.

In the 1970s there were in-comic ads for Captain America: The Musical - if anyone has more information, please please please tell me!

The below are the listings for the Captain America film made in 1979 for theatrical release, which proved so bad that it was only released on video. The other two Captain America filmes made were "Made for TV", and if anything are worse than the theatrical release. Finally, the last part lists the Captain America B&W movie serial released in 1944 - Cap with no shield, no wings - but they gave him a pistol....aaaargh!

Captain America (1979)

Synopsis
The patriotic son of the original, WWII vintage hero takes up the mask and shield to fight a villain armed with a contraband nuclear weapon who is threatening to destroy Phoenix, AZ. We should have let him destroy Phoenix rather than make this movie.

Director - Rod Holcomb

Captain America II: Death Too Soon (1979)

Director - Ivan Nagy
Cast
  • Reb Brown
  • Connie Seleca
  • Christopher Lee Synopsis
Terrorists threaten to use a gas which rapidly accelerates the aging process. They want to use it on government leaders. Wasn't this a Star Trek plot, more or less? Watch Captain America toss his motorcycle perfectly to the top of a prison wall, so that he can ride across the battlements. Fortunately, the last in this made-for-TV shlock.

    Captain America (1989)

    Director - Albert Pyun
    Writer - Stephen Tolkin Cast
  • Matt Salinger
  • Scott Paulin
  • Ronny Cox
  • Darin McGavin
  • Melinda Dillon Synopsis
This film was originally not to be released, but the proliferation of pirate copies finally convinced them to release it on video. Somehow, it would have served justice better if it had gone unreleased. Steve Rogers becomes CA in 1941, and is opposed by the Red Skull, an Italian evil Nazi. CA gets frozen for 40 years, and is akened just in time to prevent the Red Skull from ...doing something. Sorry. Couldn't make it to the end without falling asleep. This movie's only saving grace is that it is miles ahead of either the serials or the TV movies.
