With the Young Avengers shut down by the Avengers and their parents the team continues to try and find a way to continue. Things don't go very well as they are constantly presented with dangers that they can fix but can't do anything about. However, as they try to bring back their team former member, Patriot back as team leader they are soon attacked by the Super Skrull who says that Hulkling is really one of them. After an intense battle, the Young Avengers head to Teddy's home to find out if there is any truth in the matter but are once again attacked by the Super Skrull who reveals that Teddy's mother is really a Skrull herself. They have no time to react when the Super Skrull destroys their apartment and takes Teddy with him saying that they need him for their new war against the Kree.
There has been a lot going on in various Marvel books of late with the Skrull Empire. Now we start to see why that is. Allan Heinberg pens a very nice issue here, while it is mostly an action issue, he does some great characterization in the process with all the characters dealing with them trying to continue on as super heroes despite what everyone keeps telling them. The revelations about Hulkling make a lot of sense but this also casts some interesting doubts on his full origin. Just who was his father? Jim Cheung's return to Young Avengers is very welcomed. He hasn't missed a beat and his battle panels with the Young Avengers and the Super Skrull just leap off the pages. He shows just how destruction a fight with this powerful of a foe really is. However, his character moments are what really shine as you can see the pain and shock on all the characters as they deal with what is happening.
We take a break next month with a Young Avengers Special, I will be reviewing that too but in the mean time, I'm off for the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
