Review: Young Avengers #11

Family Matters: part 3

The Young Avengers find themselves at the mercy of the Kree - who have none. Hulkling finally learns the truth about his origin, that he is not only the son of the former princess of the Skrull Empire but he is also... Captain Marvel's son!

The Kree offer to tell Teddy the rest of the story but he refuses, and is then attacked by them. Along with the Super Skrull, the Young Avengers escape, hijack a Kree ship and fly off to Avengers' Tower. As they head to the tower, the Super Skrull finally reveals how Teddy came to be, how Captain Marvel saved his life and, how he will always be indebted to his family - but then the Super Skrull drops a bombshell by revealing that Wiccan and Thomas Shepherd are the Scarlet Witch and Vision's children.

Tommy can't believe it, but Wiccan accepts the truth that they are the lost children of the Scarlet Witch. Before they can reflect anymore the Skrulls attack them mistaking them for a Kree attack ship. That's when everything takes a turn for the worse and the Kree attack both of them, leaving the real New Avengers to show up and fight them off resulting in a stand-off between all four groups. B

Both the Kree and the Skrulls offer an ultimatum that if Hulkling surrenders to either side they will spare the others but he will not budge; the Kree open fire on Captain America but Patriot takes the hit instead. Now faced with their enemies on both sides and their leader dying the Young Avengers don't know what to do.

Drives me crazy that I have to wait every two months for my issue of Young Avengers but it's worth the wait. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung just keep turning out the good stuff. We finally learn the origins of Hulkling, Wiccan and Tommy but while it doesn't come as to much of a surprise it's nicely explained and doesn't slow down the story. I also like the similarities between the past Kree/Skrull War and how the Young Avengers are on the brink of starting another one. It's a nice nod to the history of the Avenger and the history the Young Avengers are making in the process.
